**SSL certificate and dedicated IP address
Shared / dedicated IP address
By default, your hosting package uses a shared IP address. At server level, a wildcard certificate for *.webawere.nl is linked to this IP address.
If you visit your site via https instead of http, an error message about the certificate may be shown, because it does not match your domain name. The message is not dangerous, but it is not one you want your visitors to see. The only way to make it disappear is to get your own certificate for your domain name. With Windows hosting you also need a dedicated IP address.
Information about a certificate and IP address:
If you have Windows hosting, a dedicated IP address is required for a certificate. With Linux hosting this is not necessary. You can find the costs of a dedicated IP address and a certificate here. You can also order the certificate there.
Please note that as soon as we assign a dedicated IP address to your account, this involves a DNS change. It can then take up to 4 hours before the change is visible everywhere and the site is reachable as normal again (especially for visitors who have just been on the site). If you order a new hosting package, you can click Change in the basket and tick the option for a dedicated IP address there. For an existing hosting package, you can order the IP address from the client area: go to My Products and choose Properties.

Certificate bought elsewhere
If you have your own certificate that you bought elsewhere, you can also install it in the control panel (see article). A fixed IP address is then only needed if you use Windows hosting.
Error message in the Apache log without a certificate
If you do not have your own certificate, with Linux hosting you may find this message in the error log: [warn] RSA server certificate wildcard CommonName (CN) `*.webawere.nl' does NOT match server name!?
